Topic: Faith In The Midst Of The Storm Text: (Mark 4:35–41) From our text, the Bible records that when Jesus and His disciples set out on the sea to cross over to the other side, a violent storm arose, causing their boat to fill with water and threatening to capsize. Seeing the violent storm, the disciples became greatly afraid and called upon their Master, saying, "Master, carest thou not that we perish?" In that situation, the disciples saw Jesus as a Master who did not care about their condition because they could not imagine how He could be sleeping comfortably in such a turbulent and frightening situation.The Bible records that when Jesus awoke, He rebuked the wind and said to them, "Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?" This brings us to our topic this morning: "Faith in the Midst of the Storm." What is a Storm? According to our Bible text (Mark 4:35–41), a storm is any situation that threatens your peace, tests your faith, and challenges your trust in God. Before the storm came, the disciples were travelling peacefully. However, when the storm arose, their peace was threatened, and they became terrified. Their faith was tested, but instead of holding on to the Master who was with them in the boat, they accused Him of not caring whether they perished. What is Faith? Faith is remaining calm and standing firm in the midst of turbulent situations. In verse 38 of our Bible text, it was faith that enabled Jesus to remain at peace in the boat. Though He appeared to be sleeping, Jesus was full of faith. He had the assurance that nothing unpleasant would result from the storm. At a time like this in our country, a time filled with many storms, the currency for our survival and livelihood is faith. We live in a period when many things have failed us because of economic instability and societal challenges. Examples of Storms in Our Country (Nigeria) Below are some examples of storms we are currently facing in Nigeria: 1. The Storm of Financial Difficulties: This is a situation that has weakened the economy and made our welfare uncertain. The prices of goods continue to rise daily. Businesses are no longer moving as usual, yet there are many expenses and bills to settle. 2. The Storm of Insecurity and Threats to Life: This is a situation where our security is uncertain and our lives are under threat because of banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violence. 3. The Storm of Family Problems: At a time like this, many families are going through various challenges such as sicknesses and health issues, the loss of loved ones, land disputes, court cases, and other difficulties. 4. The Storm of Persecution and Opposition: This is a time when speaking or standing for the truth often attracts opposition and persecution. Many people are now afraid to speak the truth because of fear of being harmed or rejected. The application of faith amidst these storms implies holding on tightly to God and never giving up. #Faith is seeing the possible in the impossible. Though many things may seem impossible in our country today, faith enables us to see possibilities where others see impossibilities. I do not know what your storm may be or what situation appears impossible before you. I encourage you to trust God one more time. Look through the eyes of faith and see possibilities in the midst of impossibilities. #Faith is having the assurance of God's presence in your life amidst every storm (Jeremiah 1:19). Are people threatening to harm you because you stood for the truth concerning that land matter? Hear the Word of God in Jeremiah 1:19: "They shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee." #Faith is trusting God so completely that His promises become more real to you than your present challenges. Beloved, do not allow your challenges to overshadow God's promises for your life. #Faith is believing God even when you have not yet seen the answer. Are you still waiting for answers to prayers you have been offering since January? Keep trusting in God. He will surely come through for you. #Faith is believing that God is working things out for your good, even when you do not understand the situation. Conclusion: In conclusion, storms are inevitable, but they are temporary. With Christ in your life, you can face every storm with confidence because He is able to speak peace into every situation. As recorded in Mark 4:39, He said, "Peace, be still." Brethren, in this time of storms, run to Jesus for your safety, and you will come out victorious. Even the disciples ran to Jesus, and they were saved. Jesus is able to save you from every storm. Come to Him today and do not delay.
